The smallest dwelling in our portfolio is for the smallest birds in our environment - hummingbirds. Inspired by American architect Steven Holl’s work, the design of this nest tries to be contextually sensitive. As Holl says, “Architecture does not so much intrude on the landscape as it serves to explain it. Architecture and site should have an experiential connection, a metaphysical link, a poetic link.”

In the same spirit, our hummingbird “nest” tries to blend into whatever surrounding it is installed. Whether it is wedged between branches and laying flat mimicking the shape of a leaf, or installed on a vertical surface of a tree trunk or building. The central component “NEST PAD” fits into a pocket for horizontal positioning, or it can be removed and attached to the larger “LEAF” component for vertical installation. A slot in the “LEAF” holds cotton to be used by a hummingbird in building its nest.

What’s In Your Delivered Package: The birdhouse will be delivered as a kit consisting of two components, the “LEAF” which is the larger part and the “NEST PAD” which serves as the nesting area (instructions included). Made with Marine Grade Mahogany Plywood. Wood grain, color, and finish may vary. (The birdhouse will weather and gray over time; to protect and maintain the color, finish and integrity of the mahogany, you can apply any high quality oil stain as desired.)
