The Idea

It all started with a robin’s nest in the backyard. When 8-year-old Mina spotted it up close, she asked her dad if they could build a birdhouse to keep the chicks safe. One sketch led to another, and soon, father and daughter were deep in design mode, creating their first birdhouse together.

For Nima, principal of ONY Architecture in Boston, the experience sparked an idea—what if they designed modern, architecturally inspired birdhouses and turned their shared project into something bigger? With each birdhouse they built, Mina learned hands-on lessons in design, carpentry, and entrepreneurship, while also gaining an early understanding of sustainability and social responsibility.

What started as a small family project has grown into Chirp, a father-daughter design workshop dedicated to creating modern birdhouses and beautifully crafted home essentials. Through their work, Nima and Mina continue to champion thoughtful design, encourage creative collaboration, and stay committed to environmentally responsible practices—because good design should do good, too.
