Chirp No. 8 - PIANO
Chirp No. 8 - PIANO
Pritzker Prize winner Renzo Piano is a world renown Italian architect whose projects can be found on almost every continent. His Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre on New Caledonia Island off the coast of Australia serves as precedent for this birdhouse.
The side panels of the birdhouse are fluted to apply texture to the exterior skin while parts of the same panels extrude beyond the surface as they extend up towards the roof. These extrusions allow for openness below the roof for natural ventilation, as well as create an entrance to the inside of the birdhouse.
Bird Species: Great Crested Flycatcher, Red-headed Woodpecker, Saw-whet Owl.
Birdhouse Placement: Great Crested Flycatcher: Install 6-24’ above the ground on a tree near an open area. Red-headed Woodpecker: Install 8-20’ above the ground in forest openings and edges. Saw-whet Owl: Install 15-20’ above the ground in forest openings and edges.
